While automakers are unlikely to abandon their multibillion-dollar investments in Canadian assembly plants and move production to the United States, Mr. Trump’s often-stated objective, there is growing concern that tariffs will devastate parts makers.
Flavio Volpe, the president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, estimates that upward of 12,000 parts workers have been laid off and, in some cases, recalled since the start of U.S. tariffs.
12,000 is a lot of elbows up.

Also this is a conversation that is far older than Trump's time in politics but we only bring it up to toss shade on him - as if there is never enough.

Nobody gave a flying fuck about ghost towns before Trump and once he's gone folks will go back to not giving a flying fuck about ghost towns.

Lets stop pretending that Canadians ever gave a shit about the people in those jobs after decades of layoffs and offshoring.

ontario can suck my cock . all the media and government ever talk about is ontario . they are so worried about the auto sector and the unions yet the same people have utter scorn towards alberta and the oil and gas industry . they would move the heavens and the earth to save auto sector jobs . they wouldnt lift a single finger to do anything for anyone west of the ontario Manitoba border .all of ontario could turn in to flint michigan for all i care
