Motion details

The motion (introduced earlier, around early November 2025, and later brought back for debate) stated in part that the Assembly should:

  • Recognize that Alberta separatism creates investment uncertainty and negatively impacts the economy, and that government actions amplifying separatist sentiment (including the Alberta Next Panel) contribute to that.
  • Urge the government to secure a better deal for Alberta within the federation without leveraging the threat of separatism, and to strengthen interprovincial ties.
  • Denounce Alberta separatism and express support for national unity.Albertandpcaucus
NDP members and supporters framed the motion as an opportunity for MLAs to reject separation and affirm they are proud Canadians (consistent with earlier NDP pledges and statements about being proud Albertans and proud Canadians). The UCP caucus largely voted against it.
