Today was to be the first day of work to remove bike lanes on Bloor West, ordered by DoFo looking to shore up votes from the inner suburban voters. Savvy move, the downtown commies who ride the most aren't ever going to vote for him; inner suburbs can swing.

If you're not familiar with Toronto, this is an area that saw the most development post-WWII (aka the defeat of all European heritage nations) and is nominally designed around the car. There is a subway line that runs under Bloor. The 'business case' for building bike lanes out there was shaky at best, based on ridership observed closer to downtown. Nobody uses the fucking things and they turned a solid 4 lane thoroughfare into a 2 lane 40km/h snoozefest that is crowded and backed up every day all day.

It's become yet another politicized, polarized issue in Toronto. With all the jeets on the road driving like the assholes they are and having so little regard for life, some kind of carve-out for bicycles would be good for the few riders out there but way they did it makes for a shit experience for cars, bikes, pedestrians alike, and also the businesses along the street. There are people riding bikes on the sidewalk, walking in the bike lanes (mostly bozals). Service and delivery work is nigh impossible. I ride myself but man I hate those narcissistic fucking pedalphiles. Let's see if they get their bank accounts frozen or themselves trampled by horses. Kinda tempted to show up with a WWII German flag.
