its supposed to start raining like a mofo here soon, so i may bake a thing, knit a bit and do a bike ride. probably go buy beer, because i went to bed yesterday in protest at 6:30pm, so i have to make up for THAT. hoping to get out for a paddle tomorrow if the weather sorts itself out.

what about you? nothing to tell me, maybe just tell me what you're cooking these days...bonus points for budget recipes, since we know we're supposed to own nothing, eat bugs and be miserable.

I’m going to put in a MAiD order if this weather won’t turn and warm up. I can’t stand another smoky, barely warm half-ass summer.

But I did hear the frog song coming from the pond, so maybe I’ll wait until fall to MAiD.

I’m going to bake an angel food mix and use it to put together a Heaven on Earth icebox cake this weekend.

That lumberjack thing sound intriguing, tell us if you make it.
 
cake looks delightful!! are you baking it in honour of memorial day? cool whip is def a guilty indulgence i rarely buy...when i was a kid i think the gmas would mostly just use dream whip instead because it was easier to get.

i just pulled the lumberjack cake out of the oven, topped it and am waiting impatiently for it to cool..ha.

the mods i made to it were:
-baked in a 9" - which i'm glad i did because it was almost full when i filled it before baking.
-turned it into a one bowl method - dumped the butter and sugar in with the boiling water, instead of creaming that shit and alternating flour and the fruit/water mix...this also helps it cool down to room temp faster so you dont scramble your egg if you dont temper it first.
-added cinnamon instead of vanilla because i was too lazy to split a vanilla bean.
-just boiled the topping on the stove for about 3 min instead of putting the cake back in the oven...i did increase the milk (well. i subbed in 35% cream instead, because its better) to about 1/3-1/2c. give or take and the brown sugar to 2/3c. so i could have more topping for the larger pan.
 
Today is meat burb day. Off they go into the freezer. Hmmmm homegrown chicken.

Also slightly miffed at my now retired vet because it turns out when my dog was a puppy and fell off the couch and screamed and held her leg up for a good month that it may have been broken in the hip area but because it happened around the same time as her spaying and dew claw removal (she had one random dew claw on the back foot) and she did walk on it and what not, he didn’t wanna deal with it. Oh it was also fucking China flu scam time so everything was fucked up to start off with.

So now she’s injured her front paw and her backend is sore as well and X-rays suggest that she may need surgeries on both ends. Have to check with a orthopedic specialist first but fuck me!!!!!! I can’t afford this shit right now and I had advocated for ages back in the day and was ignored and then it got better as she grew and muscled up and it didn’t seem to bother her anymore until her front paw issue.

Not sure the deal with the front paw, either ligament or another break… they can’t quite tell. Though she didn’t scream for that one when it happened, didn’t complain at all besides holding it up… and then she’d use it fine and then she’d hold it up again. So we didn’t think it was that serious until it went on and on and on. She’s on meds and supplements for the time being and like I said I gotta schedule a meet and greet with an orthopedic specialist.

Oh and on top of that the dog is ridiculously anxious (and fearful) of anyone she doesn’t know… like screaming and peeing and pooping herself and lashing out fearful… even with anti anxiety drugs and shit. We’ve had her since 8 weeks old and she’s always been like that. To get X-rays she needed sedation and that was a fight to get that injected holy fuck. She just turns into that little demon with black eyes, not even there at all, just fighting for her life for no real reason until the eyes go back to their normal brown color.
The most high strung and cray cray Jack Russell I have ever seen and of course she’s ours. But oh man is she also the most loving and caring and empathetic dog you’ll ever meet when she does accept you. Oh I’m so fricken miffed though.

Anyway, off to put some burbs into the freezer.
 
my one girl i used to do girl guides with used to tell her kid that the birds were going to "freezer camp."

Oh man, that Lumberjack Cake sounds awesome. I’m still mostly doing carnivore (and still feelin’ good) but wife and kids might appreciate an attempt at it.

I’m supposed to be hanging out with a couple of friends today who still tolerate me from time to time. We only see each other maybe once a year now. They’re conservative-light, so they only humor me when I get into some of the regular themes that frequent this site. Our conversations tend to go okay, I try to keep it light, but after a while I can’t help trying to express how fucked up things are, then I get flustered when the response is to deflect or make a joke of it. It’s frustrating … almost as much as the ticks this year - like what the hell?! I never saw a single one when I was a kid building forts all those years in the woods. Now they’re everywhere.
 
good luck with your retard friends...i went for coffee at my one friend's, who i havent coffeed with in well over a year, and she got to hear the truth and reconciliation rant. idk how it came up, but its her fault, haha but maybe she forgot in that time the way i lean on certain issues..she probably brought up colonization bad or some shit...she's a dyed in the wool environmentalist, but at least she's given up on the green party, ndp and fucking HATES carney. (the hating carney was def something i did not expect from her!! )

i do appreciate that she will still talk about things in ways that challenge her.
 
Lots of tinfoil conspiracy theorists this year saying boxes of ticks are getting thrown off planes to increase tick populations and give people the allergy to meat. Hard to give it any credence, but interesting that there’s more ticks than usual out there!
 
every time I get out to do some garden work, and come back in, there's ticks on me, so yeah it is tick season, may is usually bad
 
Moving along, as best as I can. Sold the racecar - that chapter is done. Hitting the gym, and happy to see the trees turning green again.

The recent unexpected passing of Kyle Busch has sent the racing world into a state of mourning.
