“The overture of Canada is a very important one,” Alfredo Altavilla, a former Fiat Chrysler Automobiles manager who now advises BYD in Europe, said in an interview in Paris. “We immediately took action to establish a sales network there.” Last month, BYD said it’s actively considering building a factory in Canada, while also keeping its options open to acquire a more established global automaker.
Should keep fire departments hopping.

It features the world's first external combustion engine

Actually that's not true, that would be the Stanley Steamer,

Which was much more popular than it's competition, the Cleveland Steamer.

There is no scenario in this country where any of these Chinese EVs will be competitive. Dreams of $20k innovative luxury vehicles are just dreams. The reality is the final msrp will be meh, and the depreciation will be incredible. The insurance will be pricey or non existent. Once again Canada will keep you the consumer at the middle or lower, docile and flabby

Without government subsidies the expected cost of the BYD Seagull is about $13,500 USD not $8000. Currently, the BYD Seagull does not meet Canadian safety standards. To meet them, it would cost an additional $2,700 USD. The cost to import one in is around $4000 USD. So, you're looking at $20,200 USD which is $28,000 CAD. I doubt manufacturing the vehicles in Canada will leads to it being any cheaper than $28,000 CAD. I expect the vehicle costs to be $30k at least which puts in the ballpark of where it should be for what it is relative to all other manufacturers. This is also roughly what it costs in Europe. The people expecting $20k EVs are in for a shock.

so how will this play out in the auto sector big 3 won't like China coming in and taking market share. fat boy ford is going to be upset he already bitched this may happen and now they doing it.
