Canadians are acting like little bitches about it too. It doesn't mean anything, it's just a business, an entertainment product. Hockey stopped being good over 20 years ago.
Just like with everything to do with Canada, even our hockey politics gets in the way of competence. That was not the best team we could have put together but it was the politically allowed one.
The team had too many veterans who were past their prime and they skipped over a lot of superior talent. Whoever picked the team was obviously more concerned about not excluding any famous names for fear of being controversial or those players wanted to go to the Olympics and used their clout which means politics was at play. There's tons of politics in hockey (most people don't realize). This has always been Canada's weakness in hockey on the international stage.
@CaptainTrouble That's why the trick is to not care at all. It's lame and stupid. The Olympics is supposed to be amateur athletes, not professionals. But they can charge more when they showcase the famous NHLers.
I think the last time I gave a shit was 2002. I realized about a decade or so later that this was a waste of my precious time.
@brutana_dilewski Funny enough, I actually do prefer Olympic hockey when it's the professionals but I hate all the rest of the Olympic sports with these professional rich kids who've trained since birth perfecting these sports. I don't care to watch some pro dude ski down a hill nearly perfect, edging out the guy by 0.1 seconds. I want to see Bob the mechanic ski down the hill fucking up on the way but still winning.
