Calgary mayor suggests plebiscite over provincial property tax hikes

Calgary mayor Jeromy Farkas is floating the idea of a possible plebiscite to push back against education property tax hikes from the Alberta government.

So the city mayor is upset the money allocated to education in the provincial budget wont go to cities.

How will the the Alberta government fund all the diversity in the classroom then??

Not quite. He is upset because back in the day when cities turned over their school board to the province, they still had to collect property taxes to fund the schools and send that money to the province. So now the province needs more money for schools, so they increase the tax rate to $2.84 per $1000 of assessed value. The mayor is now pissed because city council worked hard to cut their property tax as much as they could, but now the province has hiked their property tax, and the city has to go collect that tax using city paperwork. So people who aren’t in the know are going to be pissed at council for more taxes.

These mayors are all for mmmgrants and sanctuary cities and now the cost of those mmmgrants is going to raise taxes on all as the province has to try and raise the money needed to help them diversify the city. Smith said as much in her address to the province and now they all pay. This is the cost of stupid

Cut ALL social programs and lower taxes. The provincial government should operate on 10% of the revenues it does now. Privatized healthcare and education. $0 public funds.

Now, not a single leaching immigrant will move to your province and you'll have a big economic boom.

@CaptainTrouble this is what the UCP are about to do. Apparently they want our permission in a referendum to kick the mmmgrants out amongst other things.

Why not make that an election issue. The ucp would sweep. Even the natives would vote for it as Indians from india are their arch nemesis

@d01tg0d0wn we'll see how it plays out. I wouldn't be shocked that if Alberta stops providing social services to immigrants, the courts will review the law and determine it's unjust.
