"At around the same time oil plants were firing up, New England also lost a major source of renewable electricity as the brand-new transmission line through Maine linking the region to Quebec hydropower was taken offline.HydroQuebec spokesperson Ben Dudley said intense demand from its own customers led the company to keep power on its side of the border over the weekend."The same spokesperson noted that HydroQuebec will fulfill its energy delivery contract over the course of the year. They just aren't delivering when it's really needed.

In related news, the Nova Scotia grid was almost overloaded last week during an unusually cold spell, but NS Power are doubling down on their commitment to phase out coal-fired generation and move to 80% renewables by 2030 -- at a time when they are also encouraging a rapidly increasing population to move to heat pumps and electric cars. I'm sure this will end well:

"N.S. on track for 2030 green energy target, provincial officials say

Karen Gatien, the deputy energy minister, said Tuesday that Nova Scotia could "easily" hit the 2030 goal with a combination of onshore wind farms, solar farms, energy batteries and other small projects."
