News Release:

Today, the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety, accompanied by the Honourable Nathalie Provost, Secretary of State (Nature) and Ian Lafrenière, Minister of Public Security for the province of Québec, announced the launch of the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP) to all eligible firearms owners nation-wide. This voluntary program will remove dangerous, assault-style firearms from our communities while offering law-abiding gun owners the opportunity for fair compensation.

On January 19, all valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) holders will be notified of the launch of the program and how to participate. Eligible firearms owners will have until March 31, 2026, to submit a declaration in the online portal or by mail. Owners are encouraged to submit a declaration as early as possible to ensure they receive compensation. Declarations will be processed primarily on a first come first served basis, aligned with the availability of funds. The declaration period will open on January 19 and close on March 31, 2026.

Following the declaration period, eligible participants will only be able to schedule an appointment through the ASFCP for collection by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), police of jurisdiction or a mobile collection unit to turn in their prohibited firearms for validation and destruction.

While participation to obtain compensation through the program is voluntary, compliance with the law is not. All owners who do not participate in the program must dispose of or permanently deactivate their prohibited firearms and devices before the amnesty period ends on October 30, 2026. Owners in possession of a prohibited firearm or device following this date will be non-compliant with legislation and could face the loss of their PAL, as well as criminal liability.

The Government of Canada remains committed to combatting firearms-related crime and violence. Alongside the ASFCP, which will remove dangerous, assault-style firearms from Canadian communities, we are hiring an additional 1,000 Canada Border Service Agency Officers and 1,000 RCMP personnel to tackle illicit firearms trafficking, strengthening enforcement at the border with Canada's $1.3 billion Border Plan, implementing mandatory licence refusal for those suspected of domestic violence or stalking, restricting access to handguns, and launching a comprehensive review of Canada's firearms classification regime. Together, these measures form a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence in our communities and keep Canadians safe.

I mean it started same as last time but they fucked it up so much they didn't accomplish anything but spending a bunch of money.

Maybe this is what they mean when they said they're going to work with China on crime get China to do dirty work for them.

Perfectly voluntary if you're willing to risk a criminal record and jail time.

That's not coercive or anything, is it?

Well they've got 25 guns already, I'm sure if they take it national and spent a few billion they could bring that up to 100. That'll solve gun crime.

He mentions that if the amnesty period does end as planned this year and you haven't surrendered your firearms you may optionally have it deactivated on your own. After having it deactivated, you're required to self-report to the RCMP without any requirement for proof. I am not a lawyer is and this is not legal advice.

While participation to obtain compensation through the program is voluntary, compliance with the law is not. Owners in possession of a prohibited firearm or device following this date will be non-compliant with legislation and could face the loss of their PAL, as well as criminal liability.

So if we do not comply by October 30th we could "lose our PAL", but they are removing the ability to buy most firearms making a PAL basically a useless thing to have anyway.

What this means is that PAL owners have until October 30th to stock up on as many guns and as much ammo as they can afford, as they may not be able to use their PAL afterwards to buy anything.

Buy all the semis, bolt actions and shotguns you think you may need for the rest of your life and all the ammo you can stockpile. If you think you have enough, buy a few extra. If you already got a 12ga pump, semi, double and shorty, consider also buying a .410 and maybe a 20ga. If you already have .308 and .223 bolties, consider buying an extra .300 blackout or 45-70, or a 7.62x39/x54r. If you have one SKS, get another one, maybe with a different stock or something.

If you think $600 is "too much for an SKS" consider they might be $1200 in 3 months, $2000 in 6 months, and then illegal a year from now and your chance is lost forever. Keep in mind also that with inflation a Big Mac meal at McDonalds may cost $600 in a few years.

All this announcement means is that PAL owners should buy a new gun every month for the next 10 months, and at least 1000 rounds of various ammo each month, depending on what you can afford. Remember they are collapsing the economy. Remember the government can shut your bank account down at any time for any reason, so holding on to stockpiles of cash in an account may be a total waste compared to holding physical hardware assets which retain or increase in value.

This can't be overstated enough - don't expect the government to play by the rules.

could face the loss of their PAL
This going to be rare. Let track down everyone who bought ban guns last 5 years. Plus, stores have been keeping paper records which they would then have to sort. Nothing was digitize. Let alone certain groups been selling guns they want round-robin style. That going to be further pain in the ass.

Federal government seem increasingly toothless with the physical enforcement of actual laws. I can see them reach for the only lever that they have left is financial institution.

At this point it is grand-theater show. It been dead in the water since last year when Alberta, and Saskatchewan pass their own firearms laws. Let alone no police agency will be doing a round up.

yeah but you won't be able to get some modals of guns into Canada even if Alberta, and Saskatchewan don't ban them you got to get them across the border first.

The main issue right now for AB & SK gun owners is the potential suspension of their PAL. Even if the provincial governments refuse to collect the guns, those who have registered firearms that are now prohibited and fail to turn them in or report them as deactivated before the amnesty may have their PAL revoked.

They're using this as failsafe, because they don't expect very high compliance within these 2 provinces. So even if we won't get our guns taken away, they can take away our ability to purchase new ones and ammo. Even taking a gun that hasn't been banned to the range could result in a criminal charge because your PAL would be invalid.

Attempting civilian gun confiscation at a time when Canada is supposedly under threat of US invasion suggests that one of the following must be true:

1) The US invasion threat is real, but our government doesn't want us to be able to resist it, which means that it must secretly support the idea of such an invasion (and the continental superstate that would result) -- implying that Trump and Carney are clandestine allies, and that all their cross-border sniping is just theatre for the masses; or
2) The US invasion threat is not real, but is being portrayed as such in order to force Canadians to accept the "protection" of Communist China and/or the increasingly communist European Union, in which case private firearm ownership must be removed in order for a totalitarian system to be fully implemented here.

I think 2) sounds more likely, but either option would imply that Trump, with his background in WWE wrestling, is playing a designated "villain" role in order to make the New World Order seem more palatable to the masses
