Virtual emergency care in BC hospitals

DripDrop

Big frenly fren. Much wow!
Sew your own sutures? Set your own cast?
I can't wait for virtual dentistry to be next!
...seven evenings a week starting in the new year.
...allows for a “more sustainable work life” for health professionals...
...for life-threatening emergencies, an in-person physician remains on standby...

British Columbia needs to be divided up so the good people can free themselves from the Richmond losers and Vancouverites

I wonder what half will prosper and what half will fail miserably

I mean those virtual emergency care programs aren't for the cities. They are implementing them at rural hospitals because nobody wants to work there.

In my family i have many aunts and uncles who are doctors that work in rural hospitals. They get paid more then city doctors to be in rural communities. The pay is obviously good and the people are friendly plus there is less work and stress. If they need something the city has they just drive when there is time. Their kids have a better life too

Why doctors arent trying to live out side the city or in smaller communities is beyond me.

I don't know. But it's not just a BC problem. Rural hospitals in all of Canada face the same problem.
Great West Media’s analysis of service disruptions reported by Alberta Health Services found these 25 ERs were closed for more than 34,400 hours in 2024, equivalent to the province losing four ERs entirely.
“I probably drove about 140 km to Bonnyville because he was passing out in the back seat,” she said. “And when we got there, he was immediately put on oxygen and got x-rayed and everything like that.”

Doge is history and failed its mission. And due to the Medicaid cuts in the Big Beautiful Bill you already see hospitals in rural areas in the US closing, e.g.

Hospitals in rural areas are the ones who rely the most on government handouts.

I must be really lucky, because my rural ER has very reasonable wait times and an adequate number of doctors attending to a fairly low overall population... anyone who is already financially comfortable and seriously worried about their health should buy a cheap house in a small town near a hospital, they'll absolutely go the distance for you

If it can be delt with Virtually, it isn't an emergency. The big problem with Emergency Room attendance has always been people clogging up the system with Non-Emergency related issues. This has always been an issue, I'm sure Covid Propaganda exasperated it.

I can just imagine it now. It will be the tech support of Emergency care. Jeet "Doctors" getting paid an insane amount of money to diagnose issues in Canada from their homes in India.

I think a big reason for that is the shortage of doctors (and massive amounts of immigrants). I see people lined up outside of a walk-in medical clinic before 5am to be sure they can try and get seen that day, clinic opens at 9am...if you can't get a family doctor for regular kind of things, or even get it to see your doctor in a reasonable time, then you'll have people clogging up the only doctors you can be sure to see - the emergency room

Good morning saars

How may I be helping you?

"Hallo Saar, velcome to the Mumbai -- I mean the Miami Sheraton. Please use the form to record the number of your spouses and cattle who will be staying with you in the room. Please note that honour killings are not allowed after 10 pm. For every corpse placed in the swimming pool your credit card will be billed an additional $25. Pooing in the loo is recommended but not mandatory. A subcontinental breakfast featuring cow urine and dung-cakes is free starting at 8 am."

Just allow a private system to fill the void. I am not Howard Roark but I don't mind paying $100 to talk to someone with a fuckin brain for 30 minutes.
