Only paying? How about the government being the only source for something? You want electricity? You're a slave to the crown corporation run by the government. You could install some solar panels on your roof, but good luck with that during the six months of winter.

In NS solar panel companies were not offering battery back up but instead the panels were tied into the grid, so if the grid lost power so did the panels. Not sure if it has changed but that was about 5 years ago. The idea was that you would be paying emera a little less money since the power generated would offset the power used
