Department of Heritage researchers noted only 15 percent of cdn. households subscribe solely to traditional TV: "Fewer people are watching."

the puke Lukaszuk by the way is out of time, and short 40,000 signatures... he was only able to dig up less than 300,000 people who insist on staying in Canada... Before the liberals 10 years ago you would have the signature of 300,000 Albertans in a handful of days but canada left us!

Controversies
Lukaszuk was found to be using his government cell phone on a personal trip to Israel and Poland in 2012. The leaked government report showed that he accumulated over $20,000 in roaming charges at the expense of Alberta taxpayers during this personal trip.
Polish born and 'personal' trips to Israel? Oy vey.

I was at a hotel recently and watched cable TV for the first time in forever. I end up on AMC, watching shitty horror movies, which was great and brought me back to the good ol days. However it felt like it was 55% movie 45% ads. It's not worth it at all. I remember it being closer to 85 - 15. They must figure those 15% of watchers end up sleeping or just leaving the TV on.

I even begrudge the 15-second ads on Youtube and use Brave browser to block them. Commercials have always been loud and irritating, but when livestreaming the Blue Jays games recently from Fox or Sportsnet I've been astonished at their extreme vulgarity and nightmarish depiction of contemporary society

I recall a short clip from some black and white era recording where an audience was awaiting for the show or performance to start and an announcer was mediating the handoff off a waiting audience with the show or performance. Right when he had the audiences attention, which was from a few witty jokes, and right before the hand off the audience to the performance he put in a quick advertisement for some product and I recall the entire crowd booing him for it. Not sure why they always stayed with me but it seems that a distaste for advertisements is quite a time honoured tradition in some parts.

@Nink: Back in the mid-1950s when the UK launched its first commercial TV station (ITV; the BBC was and still is commercial-free) there were denunciations from various public figures saying that having advertisements broadcast into the nation's living rooms would tend to degrade morals. In retrospect it's hard to argue that they were wrong

@Hirudinea: "Dad, I want a slug of your rotgut!"
"Whoa, not so fast there li'l pardner -- that hooch is for grownups! What you need is a practice whisky. Cowboy Bob's is watered down to only 20 proof and has lots of sugar added, so it's ideal for young dogies. So just mosey on down to your local pharmacy and ask for Cowboy Bob's by name."

Damn, I really was born in the wrong era. What a career I could have made as an ethically unscrupulous copywriter

@ChevChelios

I can see you now.
