Tucker is right. Trump is using this opportunity to censor people. Even Bondi is now pushing for hate speech laws. Kimmel didn't call for violence. He may made fun of Kirk and Trump, but that is his 1st amendment right. Anyone celebrating this deserves the reintroduced censorship bill the Libs are currently pushing through the parliament.

"Kimmel didn't call for violence. He may made fun of Kirk and Trump"

That's not how I see it. Kimmel purposely lied and uttered slander against Trump/Maga by suggesting the Kirk killer was part of Maga. That could mean legal implications for Kimmel's employer -- such as the FAA dropping their broadcast license, or possible lawsuits etc.. That combined with Kimmel's low ratings was probably a very easy business decision for ABC to make.

This is not a first amendment crisis. He attempted to defame Maga and was fired by his employer. No one said free speech was free from consequences. If I mouth off under my company's banner and they don't like what I say I'd likely get fired too.

Edit... and the reason it is not a first amendment issue: Kimmel, now unemployed or self employed could go tell these same 'jokes' on a street corner or on a podcast or even his own venue, and probably nothing would happen in terms of being 'cancelled'. He may not have any advertisers, or may not be on an FAA controlled medium, but he could say what he said. Therefore, I think it was 100% a business decision for ABC to cut their losses.

It's not about cutting the losses.
It's about getting approval for a merger ABC is involved. Colbert was cut for the same reason even though his show was the most watched late night show.

Also defamation falls under the 1st amendment. Anyone is free to sue Kimmel for defamation in a civil court, but the government should stay out of it. Maybe in four, maybe in eight years there will be a Democrat as president in the White House and then you all will be crying like little bitches when he forces Fox, YouTube, Rumble or anyone else to remove people for "defamation".

It happened to the 'right' first. You're just the one whining now.

@Smedley
Nah, I don't care who started it first. It was wrong when it happened to Roseanne and it's wrong when it happened to Kimmel. You don't care about free speech, you don't care about justice. You want revenge. You will get it today and tomorrow you will receive it.

You are right that all of this is protected under the First Amendment. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Where you're wrong though.
Kimmel didn't make fun of anyone. He pushed the false narrative that the shooter was a MAGA Trump supporter. Which is 100% false. The same fake news talking point that most MSM were trying to push. Kimmel isn't a comedian, he's a news pundit pretending to be a comedian. All the late night shows are the same. Pushing fabricated fake news narratives designed to mislead the public shouldn't be protected speech, but it is.

You are right about Pam Blondi pushing for hate speech laws now. That's full on censorship. Hate speech laws shouldn't exist. Hate speech is loosely defined and can be applied in partisan ways. We are seeing this all over the world.

I'm pro freedom of speech for the individual. There needs to be regulation to keep the media in check. It has to be independent of government though. They shouldn't be able to fabricate news and push lies as if it were the truth. If the story isn't verifiable, it shouldn't be allowed to be published. They've gotten out of control.

We are living in the Age of Propaganda. As the saying goes, "The lie makes it around the world before the truth can put it's pants on."

That falls all under freedom of speech. Lying is a part of freedom of speech and there are already tools like defamation to deal with that.

Candace Owens is now pushing the "lie" that this shooting was staged and the wrong guy was imprisoned. It's the Jews who did it. Should YouTube ban her? In my opinion not. She should have the freedom to spew that bullshit as much as she wants.

@RightOfSask: "the "lie" that this shooting was staged... it's the Jews who did it"

That's not a lie unless it's proven false, it's merely a speculative theory. And to be honest, Israeli (note, not Jewish) involvement makes a lot more sense from a cui bono point of view

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it seems rightofsask is now leftofsask. He was typically our level headed centrist. That's no longer the case.
