It would be a miracle for him to live after that. The video I saw his head was hanging off his body with gushing blood. Absolutely horrific. Poor guy and family.
This is one of the dangers of being a public figure in culture war issues. All it takes is one nut with nothing to lose. Honestly I don't think the risk is really worth it when you have a young family depending on you.
This type of incident is less lively to happen in Canada, given how hard it is to get a gun. Obviously it's a trade off because while Canada doesn't have school shootings or incidents like this one, you also lack a firearm to protect yourself defensively, such as with the recent increase in home invasions.
So which is better? My family would say Canada because they just prefer less guns. But I would argue that only works when you have you have a unified national identity, social cohesive and low crime. As Canada becomes more divided, crime will increase, which may tilt many into preferring gun rights.
