Most Westerners are clueless about Indian culture. I learned about it first hand in my job and I've heard it straight from the Indians I work with.

Cheating is not frowned upon. In fact, successfully cheating is viewed as an achievement because you used your cunning to dominate the situation.

The same is true for many or maybe even most non-western cultures, but it's particularly egregious within Indian culture.
