National Guard troops on DC streets for Trump’s crackdown will start carrying guns. Military will handle civilian crime

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered National Guard troops patrolling the streets of Washington for U.S. President Donald Trump’s law enforcement crackdown to start carrying firearms, the Pentagon said Friday.

The Defense Department didn’t offer any other details about the new development or why it was needed.

The step is an escalation in Trump’s intervention into policing in the nation’s capital and comes as nearly 2,000 National Guard members have been stationed in the heavily Democratic city, with the arrival this week of hundreds of troops from several Republican-led states.

Trump initially called up 800 members of the District of Columbia National Guard to assist federal law enforcement in his bid to crack down on crime, homelessness and illegal immigration. Since then, six states have sent troops to the city, growing the military presence.

It was unclear if the guard’s role in the federal intervention could be changing. The troops have not taken part in law enforcement and largely have been protecting landmarks including the National Mall and Union Station and helping with crowd control.

Some troops have fed squirrels. One Guard member helped a woman carry her belongings down the stairs in a train station. Others have been seen taking photos with passers-by, standing around chatting and drinking coffee. There have been no overt indications they have faced threats that would require weapons.

Trump has boasted that the city is safer than ever because of his intervention. He told reporters Friday that “it’s a miracle what’s happened.”

“D.C. was a hell hole,” he said. “But now it’s safe.”

He suggested that he could prolong the deployment of troops and federal agents in Washington.

“The big question is how long do we stay?” he said. “Because if we stay, we want to make sure it doesn’t come back. So we have to take care of these criminals and get them out.”

Trump noted that he would ask Congress for $2 billion to improve the appearance of the city, including resurfacing roads and replacing streetlights. He’s previously pledged to improve the grass to look like one of his golf courses.

“It’s going to be safe, and it’s going to be beautified,” he said.

Trump’s decision to seek more money for sprucing up Washington comes months after the Republican-controlled Congress passed legislation that essentially forced a $1.1 billion budget cut on the city. Local leaders have pleaded for a fix but to no avail.

The Pentagon and the Army had said last week that troops would not carry guns. The new guidance is that they will carry their service-issued weapons.

Alex Wagner, a former chief of staff to the Army secretary and assistant secretary for the Air Force during Democratic administrations, said asking troops to carry firearms is a “recipe for disaster.”

He said most National Guard members don’t have the right training for Trump’s law enforcement crackdown and are being put in a “no-win situation”

“Do they have any role that would require them to have firearms? No,” he said.

However, Wagner said, if there are confrontations, “the White House can spin that to their political advantage.”

The city’s police department and the offices of Mayor Muriel Bowser and Attorney General Brian Schwalb did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The city had been informed about the intent for the National Guard to be armed, a person familiar with the conversations said earlier this week. The person was not authorized to disclose the plans and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Spokespeople for the District of Columbia National Guard and a military task force overseeing all the guard troops in Washington did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Interesting and notable

this is gonna expand to other cities soon. In other news John Bolton appears to be in deep shiat and rumors are that many Democrats in high places are gonna get a visit from the FBI soon. John is the first of many. Arrests in 2 more weeks! get excited all

if what anons know is true then pure fooking chaos is coming and those guns will be necessary

I wish he would do Edmonton and Calgary maybe if we separate???

Sets an interesting precedent. Wonder what the Dems are going to do with it once they get back into power?

If Trump is a globalist plant he is doing what his masters want while getting the support of those who would otherwise protest the loudest. Troops deploying to the streets of a major Western city sets an awful precedent. DC undoubtedly has a problem with violent crime, but it's nothing that the police couldn't handle if they were allowed to do their jobs without political interference

Disagree 1000%

They the globalists installed insurgent forces in the millions. Obama said this was the goal of his admin when he was elected that he wanted a civilian force as strong as the usa military.

Whats coming is what obama promised and the only way through it is peace through strength.

Renegade is not gonna get his way

In Canada we have same thing going on. But we have no leaders to deal with it. The globalists are also weakening our military to prepare for the end game where their forces have the power and there isnt a fighting force to stop their tyranny. Expand to gun confiscation and no right to self defense

Globalists know when Trump cleans up their fighting force in USA then it is game over as they will have no foot soldiers for the take over.

@ChevChelios

Hey people are ussatirically selling this on Amazon,

People will be shouting MAGA when they are put up against the wall.

@ChevChelios do you have any idea how bad crime was in Washington. Capital of the most powerful country in the world. Under the direct control of the federal government, he has total authority to clean it up. What a retarded take.

And Chicago is a warzone, good to clean that up too. Would you rather have some gangbanger shoot you in a 7/11 or national guard presence protecting you.

@ChevChelios Yeah that was a classic bait and switch by Trump's campaign.

Before:

"Elect Trump - he will hold the child traffickers responsible"

After:

"Turns out it never happened bro - it was a big hoax. There were never any abused kids"

You don't get to be POTUS without bending the knee to the real masters (hint: not voters)

@NotKlausSchwab Expanding the state to makes things more safe is exactly what leads to tyranny.

"Safety" was the reason given for all of the BS lockdowns and shit we saw up here from 2020 onwards.

If the Democrats were doing this, I can guarantee that the MAGA people would be saying exactly that.

Don't care who the POTUS is - the government is not your friend, especially the National Guard. They look out for the state's interests.

t's nothing that the police couldn't handle if they were allowed to do their jobs without political interference

But they aren't allowed to do their job. That's the whole fucking point.

And who could fix it so that the police could do their job? Hint: the guy actually running the country. But supposedly martial law is easier?

We should have learned by now that Western democracies are in reality elective oligarchies where you get a choice between two different paths to authoritarianism. Look at the proposals to require ID to access the internet: it's sold to the Left as necessary to stop "racism" and to the Right as necessary to stop kids from seeing porn, but the end result is the same. During Covid the same restrictions were enacted by the Liberals here and the Tories in the UK, etc.

The US is no different: Trump's first term was likely permitted to guarantee a massive uptake of the Covid "vaccines", because how many right-leaning men in America would have gone to get jabbed just because President Hillary was nagging them to? And now Trump is putting them at ease with things like shipping criminals to El Salvador, criminalizing criticism of Israel, putting troops on the streets of American cities, building giant prison camps in the middle of nowhere and probably -- in the future -- drafting them to fight in a major war

Police let cities burn because they were not allowed to do their job during the summer of love.

Whats coming will be worse then anything we have ever witnessed. Thank goodness the guard / marines will be ready

@ChevChelios you do raise good points

vigilance will be key

no one leader is the solution to our problems people awake are the key

I do see what is happening in blue cities as a positive for now

@Hirudinea 50 million is yours if you can get Maduro!!!! Thats a lot of money to keep the FCW online possibly forever. Bounty is real as far as i can tell

Venezuela war is hot already ... think the Cartel war and the gangs being taken care of in USA

@Hirudinea: I think Trump's intention is to bring back the Monroe Doctrine (if it ever really went away) and assert America's hemispheric dominance, so Venezuela would be the natural first choice, but since most US politicians are remotely controlled by the Israelis a war with Iran is also likely

@ChevChelios

Trump is absolutely of the mindset mindset that the western hemisphere is U.S. property, and he's is an SOB slumlord from old so he's going to crack down on "his tenants". But if Israel pulls his chain he will march his army into Iran, guess we'll just have to wait and see which foreign land American boys will die in first.

@censorthisss: Calm your tits and lose your unwarranted condescension. The constitutionality or otherwise of the troop deployment in DC is currently a matter of debate in the US, but at the very least Trump is violating the spirit, if not the letter, of the Posse Comitatus Act

@Hirudinea everyone and their dog is attacking the USA. I say USA has every right to go after the countries that tried to destroy the USA. That is why it looks like he is after every country not inline with Freedom. Time the USA right thr ship and install freedom world wide

@ChevChelios I don't like being condescending, especially around here where I respect everyone, but it's hard to avoid when you make absurd claims like saying the President attempting to remove liberal judges is no more unconstitutional than deploying the national guard in DC.

@censorthisss: Again, the constitutionality or otherwise of the troop deployment is a matter being widely debated down in the US: it has fuck all to do with me personally, so stop pretending I'm the only one asking these questions

@ChevChelios Everything Trump does is "widely debated" because dumb fuck commies always pretend that he's breaking the law. That has fuck all to do with whether it's constitutional. DC is a federal zone. Go read the Home Rule Act. It's crystal clear that he has the authority.

Removing judges on the other hand is blatantly unconstitutional and therefore it makes zero sense to compare the two actions.

@censorthisss: I already stated that if nothing else it violates the spirit of Posse Comitatus, but you seem to be upset at any criticism directed towards Jesus of Mar-A-Lago so it's pointless to discuss this any further

@ChevChelios Now who's being condescending? Lol can't even follow your own advice. I've criticized Trump about many things. He's not even close to perfect. But this isn't even about Trump. It's about your retarded claim that a President attempting to remove judges would be on the same level as ordering the national guard to help secure DC.

Posse Comitatus states, "...except in circumstances expressly authorized by the constitution or other acts of congress."

The Home Rule Act of 1973 fits that description and therefore Trump's actions don't violate the spirit of PC.

I hear he's going to take over Chicago soon, and if the commie gets elected in NYC you know Trump is going to take it over.

Evidence & Context

1. Historical Dominance by Republicans

2. Current Maps Still Favor Republicans

3. Recent Developments and Legal Backlash

4. Quantitative Analysis

5. Academic Viewpoints

Summary Table

PartyGerrymandering InfluenceNotable Examples
RepublicansStrong advantage due to broad control over map-drawingREDMAP post-2010, recent mid-decade redistricting in Texas and elsewhere
DemocratsLess influence overall, but fighting back in select statesProposed redraws in CA, legal wins in Utah and other courts

Bottom Line

While both parties have engaged in gerrymandering, Republicans have historically had and continue to have a greater structural advantage, both in scale and frequency, because of their broader control over redistricting processes at the state level.

Let me know if you’d like more details on specific states or the legal frameworks involved!

@TOPDAWG

I give a fuck about anybody doing it, I think it should be the law that all ridings (or whatever they call them in the states) should be shaped in a non-partisan way, there are mathematical formulas used in map making that can be used. But then again seems today nobody gives a fuck about fairness any more, just fucking over the other side.

Laughs in Argentinian...this is nothing. Talk to me when the modern equivalent of Ford Falcons with no licence plates start whisking people off in the dead of night to be tossed out of planes over the Atlantic.

Give it time, maybe sometime in Trump's third term.
