That particular town (Port Hawkesbury) was 99.9% white until just a few years ago and had no housing shortages, but then started diversifying in the usual manner; it's probably still about 95% white but the fast-food restaurants and big-box stores are full of jeets, whose arrival has vastly driven up housing demand and prompted many long-term residents to turn their basements and backyard sheds into rental units. Arichat is a smaller French-Canadian fishing community about a half-hour drive away, but the island it's situated on (Isle Madame) is a bit of a scenic backwater so I have no idea why there'd be a housing shortage there -- maybe foreigners are now being employed in the lobster canneries
