Ev is over ... it was never gonna be

Adams said one key issue for automakers is the government’s zero-emission vehicle mandate, which is set to kick in next year and was the target of recent Conservative attacks in the House of Commons.

Canada’s auto manufacturers have called on the government to repeal the mandate.

Electric vehicles remain more expensive than their gas-powered equivalents, and sales fell in the winter after the federal $5,000 vehicle rebates ran out of funding

It doesnt look good for the Liberals ev mandate. Is Trump forcing the Liberals to end it?

We all know how ridiculous the mandate is and the opposition to it. Maybe Liberals should listen to Canadians and end the mandate now.

Scrap the ev mandate so we can all go back to buying un repairable gassers that implode at 100,000 miles or 3 weeks past warranty. And don’t think about keeping something old on the roads, the government will spread salt on the roads so your old bulletproof truck decays into nothing.

I have a 2004 crossover that i redo the under coating on every few years. It has no rust and i have been able to find parts for all its components still given how old it is.

Its has a 3.5liter v6 250 hp honda engine that cant be found anymore in a crossover it size. Vehicle weighs 3500 pounds.

Take care of the vehicle and they can last forever

Also i can fix everything on the vehicle myself. New ICE vehicles i am not familiar with as I maintain my older vehicles and refuse to buy the newer ones due to the crazy amount of tech in them.

I hear ev are a nightmare to repair

Yeah, they have to roll back or even just hold on these stupid emissions/collision/mileage regulations and let industry catch up. It's like the late 70s/early 80s when nobody knew how to make a car run properly with the smog bullshit... and frankly making it past 100k was kind of a big deal. The late 90s was a golden age compared to the late 70s.

Pardon my tangent here... everyone waxes poetic about 'the good ole days' and how cars were made to last... LOL. I remember rusted out door bottoms and floor pans after 3-4 years, leaking oil from every gasket, exhaust systems that fell off every 2-3 years, A/C that lasted maybe 5 years. The lowest Hyundai today is like a space ship compared to those clunkers. Late 70s/early 80s styling wasn't great either.

@416_Refugee

Imagine a battery that can safely hold the same energy as gasoline, be refilled as quickly and hold it for as long? That would impact everything, not just cars, think of a laptop battery that could last a week, running 24 hours a day, without having to be recharged, or AA batteries that last practically forever or phones you charge in 30 seconds once a month, the technology would be a game changer.

@Hirudinea it would be transformational - the examples you gave are for the existing tech we have, imagine what that would unlock. Civilizations at their core are really about how much energy they can produce. Personal jetpacks for all... Greta Thunberg might finally get the battery powered fighter jets she wished for...

Does make me a bit nervous, being where we are in the cycle of civilization... this would also further facilitate the totalitarian surveillance state we are sliding into, but then perhaps also a contrarian move towards freedom? Skynet and terminators?

@416_Refugee

Yep energy is the life of civilizations, and the easier it is to access the more we can do. As for what the future will bring, well advancement is always a double edged sword, the internet has brought more freedom, and more control so I don't know what the future will bring, I'll just have to adapt to it.

EVs are a waste of money for virtually 0 gain. They take longer to charge, they go a shorter distance before needing a refill, they cost more money, they can't idle as long in the winter time. The only gain is acceleration and slightly less GHG emissions. EVs are just so stupid.

The hell ever happened to fucking hybrids anyway. That wasn't a bad technology and you could actually replace the batteries for a few thousand dollars and not need to take out a loan to do it.

@RightOfSask it's a pretty good technology. I was looking for a used car I found a Ford fusion and it was a hybrid. Out of curiosity I looked up how much the batteries would be to replace it was only $5,000. You go from 30 km to 50 that is pretty good. If everyone did that that would be an insane amount of gas savings. Plus the cars is only a few thousand more than a normal car.

@Hirudinea my favorite thing about EV is the homeless stealing the charging cables all the time. I dont see the homless doing that to gas stations

that or the EV chargers are actually diesel powered. Even Tesla charging stations have been discovered to be using diesel generators

honestly you have to be mentally retarded to think EV isnt a scam

Ev = coal powered cars and they arent saving the enviroment or getting better range then most ice vehicles

@Hirudinea this is why ICE vehicles win the day. There is zero fear the hoses wont be ready to get you on your way. EV there is no garantee that you will even get to your destination as 1 you might burn up when battery catches fire 2 the homeless stole the charging cables 3 the solar panels on your roof didnt charge the EV overnight again

@Hirudinea trump took the regulations off the car manufactures so they can make ICE engines great again.

cant wait to see what happens and what they engineer. One more thing vehicles dont need to turn off when stopped anymore.

Canadian greenies are losing sleep as there is no way to stop what is coming

The mandate is ridiculous, but I wouldn’t buy anything gas powered from GM/Ford/Chrysler made in the last 15 years, pure garbage motors.

Most people dont know that the commies tried this before. It failed then and will again.

It wasn't commies back then. The ICE cars were pretty shit back then, you could break your arm starting one, they were smelly and messy. EVs back then were pretty good and lots of women used them because they were easier to use. Of course ICE cars just got better and EVs did not so the market decided that ICE was better because it was and the problem is the same today but Liberals just won't take no for an answer.

@ovarieasy thats what i figured. I wonder if the fishes in those ponds had a few more eyeballs and fins then other places where ppl didnt recycle their batteries in

I should source a grant from the government to do research on this but do my research remotely from a tropical island and stuff in my million dollar home/research lab with my 3 maybe 4 scantily clad mistresses i mean research assistants that i will have great respect for and treat kindly
