New Record Set as 2 Million Vote on First Day of Advance Polls: Elections Canada

The federal Liberals and NDP both released their costed campaign platforms Saturday as Elections Canada reported record turnout in the first day of advanced polls.
Nearly two million people showed up to cast a ballot on Friday, the first of four days for advanced voting in the federal election.
Elections Canada said in a social media post it will be making adjustments over the coming days to handle the high traffic after many voters were met with long lineups at polling stations.
Almost 5.8 million voters turned out for advanced polls in the last federal election in 2021, which was up more than 18 per cent from figures in 2019.
This year’s four advanced voting days land over the April long weekend and come to an end on Monday, one week before the general election date of April 28.
Poilievre was campaigning in Richmond, the city of about 200,000 people just outside Vancouver. Nearly 60 per cent of residents cited East Asian as their ethnicity in the last census.
The Liberals won the two seats in Richmond in 2021, but the margins are close and the seats are both in contention for the Conservatives in this match up.
Poilievre spent most of his speech criticizing the Liberal platform for being too expensive, calling it “shocking.”
“We now know that life will get even more expensive if the Liberals get that fourth term,” he said.
High turnout and lots of shenanigans means things looking up for Millhouse.

I love that the future of my country is decided by ethnic enclaves!

I drove past the polling place. Can't do it.

I usually vote independent but here's the only choice in my riding:

Voted yesterday (Saturday)

I was the only person under age 50 in the building......probably the avg age of others in line was 65.

In a 905 riding.....

I found that concerning.

Glad you made it back to vote in person.

Curious whether you’ve been up to El Salvador since Bukele’s cleaned it up and impacts of a more peaceful El Salvador on Nicaragua.

Spent a lot of time in El Salvador from 2006-2012 as my wife was doing some work there. We avoided most of the bad areas as were in Sonsonate Department which is far from the capital. But anytime we had to go into a major urban area we had an armed escort.

Last time I spent any real significant time in Salvador outside of an airport was just before Covid in 2019, and Bukele had just been elected as Prez that year.

Nicaragua (other than 2018 protests) is almost always peaceful. You can hate on the Sandinistas all you want, but they operate on the FAFO principle that Bukele has somewhat copied. There are no cartel gangs in Nicaragua. MS-13 is afraid of the Nicaraguan government.

My neighbourhood in Masaya, Nicaragua has literally no crime. I can't say the same for my neighbourhood in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Don't buy/sell drugs and don't fuck around with the government.....outside of that you can pretty much do whatever you want as a resident foreigner.

My neighbours call me "chele"

I'm over 50 (though not a Boomer) but even I recognize that a huge part of the problem in this country is a "fuck you, I've got mine" mentality among older people who either have no idea what young people are suffering in this country or simply don't care. Unfortunately, these wrinklies are also the ones most motivated to vote

Loving the “I can’t believe the line up!” on the news. Yes dummies, there are a very limited number of advanced polling stations designed to accommodate people who are unable to vote on election day, not overly excited retired boomers that can’t wait a week to vote at the elementary school 2 minutes from their house like normal people.

Well folks, do you expect more voter turnout or less?

I’m expecting higher turnout since Trudeau’s gone, think normoids will feel there more a point to vote this time around without him, and more reason to try fill his power vacuum with someone they want. Still not sure if I’m vooooting since not gunna do shit, if not lazy maybe I’ll throwaway vote PPC lol
