going to celebrate the religious way, overindulge in dead chocolate rabbits or vote early, harder?

inlaws are coming over later so i should probably clean this shithole up a bit and make some food. not going to make the whole turkey for the first time in forever (maybe tomorrow, idk...i do enjoy cooking turkeys) since they're going to see her fucking commie sister tomorrow and i think thats what she's making...soooo. yes.

Mass yesterday for Good Friday. Played some lacrosse with my daughter and trying to teach my son.

My wife FINALLY joins the Catholic Church tonight at the Easter vigil. So there is a rehearsal for her this afternoon and then the Mass later at night. All out of town of course, so lots of driving.

Church in the morning tomorrow and then off for a bit of a road trip to visit her brother for an early dinner.

I took Monday off work to rest after a busy weekend.

Have a great Easter weekend

No time to VOTE HARDER ooooooooh oooooohhh

Making a sweet tatoe casserole with a molasses nut crumble on the top and pecan pie for my MIL.

I'll have to at least put some of her over dry smoked spiral ham on my plate even if it's dark and ineatable.
Turkey on Sunday in this house, paired with some Jesus and the classic egg/scavenger hunt complete with flying kites if the wind is just right.

I'll vote on election day, I'll celebrate the Lord first, everything else comes after.

Currently doing two renos in two cities and running a business I started near the end of 2023.

Regarding "vote harder", this is a mentality that just needs to be dropped. You have one vote, and control over that one vote, if you can't convince those around you to vote for who you want elected, then learn your party apolgetics better or find a better party.

Yes, I will vote on election day, as Easter weekend is for the Lord. Also egg hunts with kids after Mass.

I agree with the vote harder. Sadly the two main parties are the two sides of the same coin so "voting harder" is irrelevant.

Well, like him or not, Poilievre is the best leader the conservatives have had in a long time, and he has done his job well. He might not be as socially conservative as we would like him to be but he represents a huge shift in the overton window and we need that for the PPC to be a viable party.

The Republican party used to just be democrat light, and while there are still RINOs to clean out, things are moving in the right direction there too, same concept for us.

My heart is with the PPC, and I don't subscribe to "strategic voting" the way it's been talked about the last 2 elections and far before that, but we do need to shift the culture back to one where the PPC platform is one of actual reason and common sense. We also need private media to stop being funded by the Liberals, because like it or not, they are the source of information for most people, and they either need to stop being cozy with a political party....period, or they need to sink under their own bloated weight.

@Neutral_admin well put and I agree with your argument. One of the better, well written arguments I have read regarding voting in Canada and the horrible bias in the media.

I will still be voting PPC because I need to vote with a clean conscience and for a party I believe the best for my family and Canada as I knew it.

Having Easter supper with my father. He's not in good shape, so I don't take time with him for granted.

I am not going to lie, the world right now is very depressing. I guess I shouldn't be so naive - hard times have been the norm for most of human history.

I do my best to remember to have gratitude for what I have been blessed with - it's so easy to get trapped in a rut of self-pity and despair.

Christ offers hope for all of us - while we remember the significance of His resurrection for us, the true miracle to me is the reason behind the resurrection.

It his is ability to love even his enemies - I struggle with his commandment for us to do the same.

raging against the machine
The other day I saw a father teaching his daughter to ride a bike. He was holding onto the back to keep her from falling over (it had one of those training bars). Problem was, he had his phone in the other hand and wouldn't take his eyes off it, so the kid was weaving and wobbling all over the place. But he wouldn't stop looking at his phone.
Uncle Ted was surely glaring down upon that man.

i like that he was trying to teach her a thing...but. meh. at least he was off the fucking couch? idk. my dad "taught" me to swim by chucking me in the water. pretty sure i "learned" to ride the bike by him just giving it a shove with one hand, beer in the other.

all they really need to do is make sure you dont do is drown or crack your head open and tell you to keep giving 'er til you got it. (which is still quite important if you ask me)

i fucking hate the phones.

4 days off, till Tuesday. Work got replaced by going to church, at least it feels sometimes like that. Yesterday, church service. Tomorrow, church service. Monday, church service. Always at 9:30.

Oh, and my wife made like 100 Paska buns. I'm gonna feed the whole congregation and family with that. Or eat them all by myself and get diabetes.

i almost miss church.

twas the people that killed that for me.

I spent yesterday at our acreage cleaning up some of the rubble left by the previous owners. Today, I'm taking it easy, other than heading to the jam session my buddy hosts. After that, more taking it easy. Tommorow, heading back to the acreage for more work. I need to work smart though, as I buggered up my left elbow while taking out 3 layers of old flooring in the kitchen. Nails in every layer.
We aren't very religious so, Easter doesn't have the same significance to us as it does to others. However, to the people here that celebrate Easter, have a safe and happy Easter!

I’ve been dealing with some health stuff the past few weeks - I’m sure it’s partly stress related. Doing a 2-day fast, hoping it can give my body a bit of a reset. I’ll mostly be laying low and hanging out with the wife and kids.

I truly envy those of strong faith and a church to go to. I’ve been ‘searching’ these past few years, both for a spiritual re-awakening of some sort and possibly a church that isn’t flying rainbow flags. Haven’t found either just yet, though I want to.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Easter.

Check out the bible in a year podcast with Fr Mike Schmitz, also the Catechism in a year podcast. They are rather eye opening.

Bible and Catechism in a Year are fantastic resources and what helped get my wife to convert from being an agnostic to maybe believing more to wanting to join the Church this year.

Those podcasts, mixed with some Pints with Aquinas got her asking more questions and I could go into more details since I was born and raised in a Catholic household and schools.

2nd day was BBQ chicken over coals with poutine.

3rd day steak with baked potatoes and mac and cheese.
