The EU won't want Canada to gain any benefit from the EU unless Canada puts itself through the exact same regulations as other EU members. Why would Europe give their own companies a disadvantage in trade by allowing Canada to regulate less stringent but then give Canada free trade on its products/services thereby giving EU companies a disadvantage? Why would EU members allow Canada to benefit from the EU without paying for the EU? Canadian businesses won't allow the EU regulations because the regulations will hurt their profits significantly more than any gain from trade. IMO, the whole EU thing is just a negotiation strategy with the Americans and not serious. It would be a huge mistake for Canada to let the EU regulate us. I got the impression that Ursula just said what she said to try to help Carney's "trade war" with the USA but the whole thing isn't serious.
