Yes — AfD just had a major, historic win in the Saxony-Anhalt state election on September 6, 2026. It finished first with 43.8% of the vote (more than double its 2021 result), well ahead of the CDU at 17.2%. That gave AfD 39 of 83 seats. Turnout was very high at about 77.8%.

It fell three seats short of an absolute majority (42 seats). Other parties have so far refused to form a coalition with it, so government formation is now the main question. AfD is trying to attract individual lawmakers; mainstream parties are trying to assemble a government that excludes it.

Postal (mail-in) votes did not “foil” an already-declared win after the fact. Results were consistent from exit polls through the full count. However, they did pull AfD’s overall share down:
  • In-person (election-day) voters: AfD ~51.2%
  • Postal voters: AfD ~24.3% (tied with CDU)
Without the postal ballots, AfD would have been over the majority threshold on a purely arithmetic basis. Postal voters in Germany have long leaned more toward established parties; AfD had already been urging supporters to vote in person and questioning postal voting before the election. Fact-checks found no evidence of systemic fraud or that irregularities changed the outcome.

In short: it was a genuine landslide for AfD and a heavy defeat for Chancellor Merz’s CDU, but not an outright majority, and the postal-vote split is why the seat total landed at 39 rather than 42+.

Upvote 4
Postal voters were far more favorable to the established parties and far less favorable to AfD than people who voted at the polling station. That split is why AfD’s statewide total landed at 43.8% instead of the ~51% it got at the ballot box.

We should always wait and see what any recently-elected and supposedly "based" politician is going to do, because judging by the examples of Meloni, Milei, Le Pen etc. pretty much the first thing they do is bash their head against the Wailing Wall and start to walk back the policies they promised they were going to implement

I'm pretty sure Le pen never actually formed a government. Yes I think they won more seats but they didn't have enough to form government so they haven't done anything.

You're quite right that Marine Le Pen never won a national election, but she is still pro-Israel like too many other "kosher nationalists" in Europe

The city centre of those mainly indio/mestizo countries will vote for whoever saves them 25¢ daily. Except Chile most of the people make $300-$500 a month.

Anyone keeping track of South American events? Imo the rise of Conservatives voters there is mainly due to Pastors and Priests. Latin America has their own brand of socialist democracy, they’re community based and anti-foreign extraction
