Another fine new Canadian.A Toronto man who was arrested alone aboard a boat drifting in the Atlantic Ocean last fall has pleaded guilty to charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
Mohammad Yazed Saleh, 31, admitted in provincial court in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., that he drove a stolen Ford F-150 pickup truck with Ontario plates to a yacht club in the village of D'Escousse on the coast of Cape Breton. He took a small fishing boat and headed out to sea.
Five days later, the stolen vessel was seen off the French islands of St-Pierre-Miquelon, near Newfoundland. During an October court appearance, Saleh told the judge he did not want to return to Alberta or B.C. because he “took a half-a-million-dollar loss out there. I had a big business and I left in fear of my life.”
