Officers responded to reports of shots fired outside a home near Crescent Road and 132 Street shortly before 4 a.m.
When they arrived and identified a vehicle with its occupants inside, police say a chase ensued after they escaped the scene on foot.
While the three suspects remain in custody, no charges have been laid against them yet.

How is it possible to be arrested, but not charged? Under the Charter, don't the police have to tell you immediately what you're being charged with, and inform you of your rights, when you're arrested?

You're gonna love these mugshots

...arrested on Sunday by officers on an anti-extortion patrol...
Police say they were detained a short time after the shooting, after getting into a ride-hail vehicle.

RALLY -- Some type of rally in Surrey, but I'm not quite sure what they're rallying for. Any ideas? (Also, another "rally" planned for today, too)
archived: https://archive.today/nZVGS
Gary Purewal, who is part of the group that organized the rally, says he’s frustrated.
“Every time criminals are caught, their faces should be on the media, and their background information should be provided, and if the current MPs can’t do that, they should resign in 60 days,” Purewal said.
The SPS has said it will not be releasing photos of the suspects until they’ve been charged.
Purewal is unhappy with how the justice system has been handling extortion cases.
“When we have organized crime, there is no restorative justice,” he said.
“It does not work on criminals that are organized, that are international, and we need better laws to protect ourselves.”
Those images sure contradict Surrey's Board of Trade comment about this not being a Indian problem (ref: https://freecanada.win/threads/35222/post-471607 )

OPINION - A Letter To The Editor: Treat Extortion Seriously
archived: https://archive.today/IxJKG
When businesses are being threatened and shots are being fired, this is, by any reasonable public standard, a crisis.
Public trust depends on competent leadership and sound judgment. Statements that appear to downplay serious violence undermine confidence and weaken faith that the situation is being handled with the priority it demands

OPINION -- Another Letter To The Editor: Sikhs Are Not To Blame!
archived: https://archive.today/Tg4VY
While these incidents are deeply troubling, I urge your publication and the broader media to exercise caution in reporting to avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes and fuelling anti-Sikh hate.
To prevent further escalation of anti-Sikh hate, I implore media outlets like yours to:
• clearly distinguish between criminal individuals and the broader Sikh community in reporting;
• investigate and highlight the role of foreign governments, such as India’s, and groups like the Bishnoi gang in these crimes;
• report on the failures of the immigration system and call for reforms to protect vulnerable immigrants;
• amplify voices from the Sikh community to provide balanced perspectives and counteract misinformation.
Clearly hired by the government to support the the other gaslighters (see 2nd post above)

OPINION -- Article: Little Success On Extortion Crisis
archived: https://archive.today/tjEkG
The extortion crisis – and yes, it is a crisis – continues unabated into February.
Meanwhile in Surrey, there have already been 36 extortion attempts and eight shootings thus far this year, as of last week. This all took place in less than a month.
The flurry of activity at the political level has not changed things on the ground, and members of the community continue to hold meetings, conduct protests and raise their voices. These issues affect them personally and directly.
Lol, apparently there have been only 8 shootings this year. The gaslighting is strong with this journalist.

...a community advisory group will be created to work with BC’s Extortion Task Force...
...an agreement with Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke to allow the province’s police board appoinments to lapse...
...there will also be a meeting of police leadership from forces across the country...
He is also calling on the federal government to expedite the votes on Bills C-12 and C-14...
...expressed concern about “inconsistent communications...
...I fully support the commisioner’s work to get everybody on the same page...
...it can be hard to know what’s happening on the front lines when you get reports up that say everything’s great.
...the move comes after repeated attempts by the province for the police to communicate updates regularly to the community... they have not done so.
The Surrey Police Board regular meeting for Thursday, February 5, 2026 has been cancelled with an explanation on its website this happened “as a good deal of information to be presented is from individuals who are not able to attend due to unforeseen circumstances” and that “a special meeting will be scheduled in due course,
[Conservative interim leader Trevor] Halford added that the province has been slow to listen to the community.
“They should have been listening from the very start. Instead, they ignored dozens of cases, the repeated pleas from business owners, and the cries from communities who were warning that this crisis was escalating.”
There have been 46 reports of extortion, 11 extortion-related shootings and 29 victims (17 of whom are repeat) in 2026 alone,
This same newspaper earlier today reported there were 8 shootings. Now they're reporting it's 11 shootings. FCW's count is at 25 shootings. And one of the articles is even about poor communications... lol. Worst gaslighting ever.
