It’s a bit of a mixed bag from what I can see, keeping in mind we’re still in the early stages of its creation. The UN and frankly the whole mindset of “this is how things have always been” definitely needs a kick in the teeth though and they’re getting it
Trump just basically invented a pay-to-play version of the UN. If a country wants a permanent seat on this board, they have to cough up $1 billion in cash. It sounds crazy, but nations like Hungary and Vietnam are already forging checks because they want in on the $70 billion reconstruction of Gaza. Trump is the Chairman, he has absolute veto power, and he’s even invited Putin. It’s a total end-run around the old global order, run like a private equity firm instead of a government.
The real kicker is what Mark Carney is doing to Canada to get us a piece of that action. He’s at Davos right now acting like a globalist hero, but back home, he’s using the "One Canadian Economy Act" (Bill C-5) to basically turn the PMO into a dictatorship. This law lets him label anything like a mine, a pipeline, a port—as a "Project of National Interest." Once he does that, he can steamroll over provincial laws and environmental rules to make sure Canadian lumber and steel get to the BoP's projects on time. He's essentially turned the whole country into a warehouse for Trump’s new board.
This is triggering a massive constitutional meltdown. The provinces are losing it because Carney is reaching into their backyard and taking control of their resources. Alberta and Quebec are already in court, and we’re seeing "Sovereignty Acts" being invoked to block federal orders. We’re in a situation where the feds say "build it" and the provinces say "get fucked" leaving billions in infrastructure sitting in legal limbo. It’s the biggest threat to Canadian unity since the 80s, all so Carney can keep his seat at the table.
Meanwhile, the military side of this is already moving. the "International Stabilization Force" is getting ready to lock down Gaza. it’s about securing the "Green Zones" for "preferred bidders" like ATCO and AtkinsRéalis. These Canadian companies are getting massive contracts, but the money is coming from that $1 billion "buy-in" pool and World Bank funds that Trump controls. We’re basically becoming a sub-contractor for a global board that operates completely outside our own Parliament’s oversight.
We’re watching the world split into two. You’ve got the old, slow UN on one side, and this new, hyper-centralized Board of Peace on the other. Carney has bet the house on the Board, but to do it, he’s tearing the Canadian federation apart. He’s using Gaza as an excuse to seize control of the domestic economy, and most people don't realize that "One Canadian Economy" actually means "One Guy in Ottawa decides everything." This isn't just a trade deal; it’s a total rewrite of how Canada and the world works.
