I’d counter with a better deal: keep Canada, invest in Indian immigrants, and actually make the economy work. Indians are filling real labour gaps, starting businesses, paying taxes, and... let’s be honest... doing the jobs “we boomers” love to complain about but still rely on, like mowing lawns, recycling bottles and cans (yes, even Monster Energy), driving deliveries, and keeping services running. They even scan your Tragically Hip CD at Walmart. No foreign buyout needed, just Indians who want to work, build, and contribute. That’s a way better return on investment than selling the country for a one-time cheque.

I’d rather have an offer to be allowed into the United States as a refugee or expedited lottery winner. I mean some cashish on top would be fantastic too but I don’t think Canada deserves fixing or buying in its current state. It deserves to hit rock bottom third world country status.

Indian immigrants prevent rock-bottom outcomes. High rates of entrepreneurship, doctors and engineers shoring up healthcare and infrastructure, small businesses stabilizing neighborhoods, strong emphasis on education and civic participation, and a net-positive tax base. That’s how you keep institutions functioning and stop the slide... by adding Indians who build, staff, and invest, not abandon.

Trump won't allow us to slip that far. He's said many times that Canada only works as the 51st State. He's the only one, after all, who has the mandate and manpower to clean it all up.
 
This proposal would mean the US would need to spend $40 trillion, which means they would need to either borrow or print $40 trillion. Since Canada as a whole is not actually worth that much, I would prefer not to become part of a US economy that had just done that to itself.

I would, however, vote to join the US for fucking free.
 
It's a joke. We'll be extremely fortunate if we get our CAD on par with the USD let alone get all the awesomeness that comes with being American (Constitution -- 1st and 2nd Amendments etc).

Would you rather be ruled over by an incompetent and corrupt bunch of sadistic bureaucrats or by a more competent version of the same with more resources to spy on and control you? Trump won’t be in power forever. Moreover ‘the USA’ doesn’t even exist anymore - it’s ZOG through and through. Why move closer to the source of evil? I think we’ve got a better chance of surviving here (not the country but small blocs of people), but again, I’d have to read the specific terms.

It's a moot point anyway, since printing $40 trillion USD to buy off every single Canadian would depreciate the value of the currency to such an extent that $1 million would be worth far less than it is now

Hilarious -- of course I'd take the money (who knows, Trump's tariffs may easily pay for it all lol). We'll be extremely fortunate if we get our CAD on par with the USD. My own reaction towards American annexation would be largely based on how the US ruled Canada: if we'd just have the same way of life as we do now but with lower taxes, better free speech and firearm rights, total free trade with the lower 50 states etc. then those things would obviously be a net benefit, plus we could always retain our Canadian identity as a region within the new country much as various subcultures within the US (e.g. Southern, Hawaiian, Cajun etc.) already retain theirs. On the other hand, if the Yanks more or less openly brutalized and exploited Canada I'd be the first one to say we should have a Vietnamese- or Afghani-style insurgency to kick their asses out as soon as possible.

With all that being said, however, I freely admit that I am an immigrant, and that as much as immigrants may love Canada they will never in their lives feel fully Canadian. The important decisions about this country's future should always be left to the people whose ancestors have been here for hundreds of years: comparatively recent arrivals like me shouldn't have any say in it at all

Canada will never become a state. It will at most become a territory. Canada's politics will not just disappear once it joins, it will continue existing. Remember this is Trump's last term whoever going to replace him might be a Democrat who is going have a vendetta to the other half of the population. Now we will have to deal with American politics on-top of continuing Canadian politics.
