Annette Dionne, the last of the surviving famed Canadian quintuplets born during the Great Depression era, died on Christmas Eve at the age of 91.

The five Dionne sisters—Annette, Émilie, Yvonne, Cécile, and Marie—made headlines after their birth on May 28, 1934. Born as identical, premature, and undersized infants, they were the first quintuplets at the time known to survive past infancy.
The Dionne Quints Museum in North Bay, Ont., confirmed Annette Dionne’s death in an interview with The Epoch Times.
Ed Valenti, chair of the Dionne Quints Heritage Board, said Annette was the last of the quintuplets to die and also the last of the Dionne family, which had 14 children in total.

Quintland

When the quintuplets were four months old, the province took the girls and placed them under control of a board of guardians. The decision saw the quintuplets moved from their family farm to a nursery-style exhibition that attracted millions of visitors who watched the quintuplets through a one-way glass. Nurses and teachers were hired to care for the girls.
The exhibition, called Quintland, was the country’s biggest tourist attraction at the time, bringing in about $500 million for the province.

Movies were made about the girls and they were sought after for product endorsements. During World War II, five identical ships were named after the sisters.

The girls’ parents, Oliva and Elzire Dionne regained custody of the girls when they were 9 years old.
Never doubt that the goal of our post-nation state is resource extraction, not enabling citizens to live their best lives with minimal interference.

Do you think they became more powerful as the others died? Like Highlander or The One?

I laugh, but there might be something to that. My paternal grandfather had 13 siblings - when he passed away a month shy of his 90th birthday, he was the only one left.

I suppose whether you feel sad or triumphant about being the last sibling left standing would depend a lot on your personality type. Extroverts would miss the huge family gatherings, but introverts would be glad not to be bothered with unwanted phone calls and Christmas cards anymore

Christ almighty, it's like something out of "The Truman Show"

Why didn’t the parents fight back?

I’m no expert, but my understanding is that Ontario was run like a fiefdom in those days. It was also the Depression. Parents did eventually get them back and also had other children.

But you have a set of hither-to unprecedented quintuplets, state and/or the doctor takes over care and decides to make some money on them.

I read a much larger piece on the story years back which was fascinating. This isn’t it, but more info:

They were French, Ontario was English back then. They were nearly illiterate, didn't know what to do. The government paid them some money, more than they'd ever had in their lives. And finally they were by many accounts shitty parents anyway.

They would be from the Silent Generation, as of now 84.4481187 % of them have passed on.

The Boomers are 38.2627262 % dead.

This means that more of those that believe everything the tv and media says are dropping off.

Today 6033 Boomers looked the Grim Reaper in the eye and gave him a firm handshake

Kind of reassuring to find out that only 8% of Gen-X is dead. Guess we still have some time left to spread our apathetic nihilism throughout the earth
