There is only one true winner in the console war and it isnt a console at all. The PC is the place for games of all consoles including nintendo.
My kids dont even play on console no more except my little guy but even he is playing games on the pc as of late

Their hardware sales are tanking, so it’s pretty clear they’re pivoting toward being a cloud gaming company putting their software on every device possible. It's a shame as their hardware is really good.
Can’t really blame them, though. No console maker actually makes money on hardware well, except Nintendo.

The early days of online play were a golden age.
Decades ago I played this MMO called 'Everquest' - I wasn't the best at it, but what was enthralling was this concept of an 'online community' that lived in this game world.
There was no 'instancing' - meaning groups of players would have to negotiate claims on dungeons. Within those groups (guilds) they had politics and hierarchies and opinions on who would get what magic item if the item happened to show up in a dungeon raid, etc.
The game was super hard, had semi perma-death (meaning if you died in a scary place and weren't able to retrieve your body within a certain amount of time, it would vanish and you would lose ALL your gear)
Each server was it's own world, people knew each other and had reputations, etc. It was like an alternate existence.
Then World of Warcraft came along and turned that whole game concept into a casual one, which did have some fun elements at first (like a really good pvp system) but in the end, they just dumbed it down so that they could expand their subscriber base. Once something becomes easy, it's not as fun.
Other gems in my opinion:
- Battlefield 2 (the best game in the series IMO)
- Call of Duty 4/MW/MW2 (if you loved run and gun action while listening to every insult and racial slur imaginable by 12 year olds, this one was for you)
- Minecraft < this one was a late surprise, being a Minecraft admin was one of the more pleasant experiences because the game world was so interactive. I am glad I wasn't born later, if this type of stuff was around when I was a kid, I don't know if I would have ever finished school
