If I were born in Palestine in the last 60 years, my one and only goal would be escaping with my family. It's been clear for years that this isn't a place to stick around and hope gets better. Yeah Israel may be in the wrong, but that isn't going to help you not get blown to smithereens.

Don't get me wrong, I don't support either side. This would be like two African sides waring with each other; it's not for us to get involved in any capacity. That being said, I do think long term it will be better for the world when Israel has total victory and expelled them all.

I just don't want them coming to where I live. My country's government's only job is to recognize that while tragic, these are not Western people. Ports must be protected to ensure not one is allowed to enter. That is what is in our interest. On an individual level, if some Canadians want to send their own money as aid that is of course ok. But none of us should be forced to send money or take refugees at the behest of our government. That would be our government fucking us over, which unsurprisingly is the most likely outcome.
