Hello August Long!

Welp my weekend is twofold. Write assignment for Refrigeration shop and study for a test for Refrigeration theory.

exiting the insurance industry?

Went to a new local independent book store to pick up an order from them today and went to a farmers market with my daughter today.

Tomorrow, relax and do nothing. Wish I booked a tee time, but wasn't really thinking of it.

Church on Sunday. Then heading out to finish some back to school shopping for the kids.

Monday, just relax and maybe visit with my brother in law with kids and dog.

Making a lasagna.

By coincidence I was talking to a coworker of mine the other day about lasagna -- thankfully, both of us are so old that we don't have to talk about food solely as a preliminary to flirtation -- and she said she routinely puts cottage cheese in hers! When I hinted that I thought it sounded appalling she claimed it was purely there for the texture and that you didn't really taste it as such in the finished product, which included the usual amounts of mozzarella.

I told her that I tried getting fancy myself once with lasagna by adding bechamel sauce to it but I was rightly punished for my hubris when it just seemed needlessly goopy in the end. In my mangiacake opinion Italian food features bold flavours, so the ingredients should be kept as simple as possible. Then again, I'm an austere (i.e. cheap) Scottish cook -- for example my mac 'n' cheese is just that, macaroni + cheese, with any added ingredients such as breadcrumbs striking me as disgustingly decadent. (I'd probably add haggis to it if I had the option, though: I would add haggis to anything)

mangiacake - Well that says you're from Toronto. Anyway, yea I can see the cottage cheese. I'm putting some ricotta in mine, and frankly cottage is a good cheap replacement for ricotta so it makes sense. And when you speak of Scottish cooking I'm reminded of this,

Johnson described oats as “a grain which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland supports the people.” To this, Lord Elibank reportedly replied, “True, but where can you find such horses, where such men?”

Besides hanging out in my pool i hope to fit in some gaming with the kids or just me and myself cause kids prefer their games as family games arent cool no more. Honestly what is better then Worms Weapons Of Mass Destruction or Mario Kart 8? Maybe that new Turtles game or Streets of Rage 4?? Tried Overcooked 1+2 but honestly it just felt like work. Kids are teens now so i guess i need more mature games?

If they dont wanna play with dad well then fine i have that Robocop Rogue City game and i havent been able to play it much. I hope to plow through that a bit while the wife goes out with frens to do women stuff. Maybe i will get the expansion if its good.

What are you all playing and what are good family games to play with kids in same room that are not WMD or MK8 for teens.

My kids are younger. They are playing lego batman, lego marvel superheros, sonic racing game, Tiny Glade (spoiler
- roller coaster
), slime rancher etc. Plus an artillery sandbox my husband made.

I'm at an RV. Went to a national park today made breakfast for dinner.

Waffles or pancakes??

Heh

@TOPDAWG i was thinking of getting me one of those blackstone griddles but not the portable one. Could be portable i guess in my Truck but more of a stay at home kind.

my Cuisinart bbq is on its last legs and to clean it up and replace all the parts is more then a new bbq. I hate to let it go cause it worked so good but it be about 8 years old and its time to put it out to pasture.

@d01tg0d0wn do some research because Tigger makes one and so does Napoleon.

You also want to check if you can cook with the hood down as mine's portable it doesn't have one. I find my Blackstone even if it gets one single drop of water wants to rust in that area that you have to of course scrape off before you cook.

Look up a channel on YouTube called to flat top King he has reviews pretty much for all types of grills.

Costco has a nice price on a big black stone.

the only plan i have so far is to go buy beer and eggs. and then drink the beer. we're working monday. which is fine. ish. its always a double edged sword for long weekends since all of our work just gets pushed into the rest of the week to make up for it. but an extra day to not put pants on is always appreciated.

i did make a no-bake thing. but in a 9 by 13 and with a graham crust instead of pie crust. just seemed like too much shit to try to cram into a 9" pie plate. now i'm just waiting for it to set.

Yesterday: drove 40 minutes to a pathetically small vendor's market at Mrs. Chev's urging. Items on offer were all just cluttery knick-knacks (e.g. crocheted animals, painted rocks etc.) that I have no interest in whatsoever. Ordered a fresh-made pizza from some old hippies who told me it'd be 30 minutes, which would have been long enough but in the end it took an hour and all the while they were controlling the music at the venue through the speakers so every fucking song was from the late 1960s. Still, everyone at the event was very nice (hippies included) and the location in the hills was very pretty. It was just one of those things that Samuel Johnson was talking about when he said "it was worth seeing, but not worth going to see"

Health has been rough the last 6 months, well 2 years really, and this last month has been more of the same plus work stress. Probably a mix of catching up on the todo list and resting. It's supposed to be very smoky here tomorrow which could sap whatever energy we had left.

We made Hawaiian pizza yesterday (grain and nightshade free, but the ham we smoked ourselves, and top notch cheese), and there’s 2 nectarines in the fridge, so that's pretty awesome.

Finally ditched Windows on my desktop after babying the same install for over 15 years across multiple machines.
Silly me thought I could keep NTFS on my secondary drives without much issue, but to be on the safe side I'm backing up everything on them before wiping and using a different filesystem. ext4 since I'm a basic bitch.

Oh, and burgers tomorrow.
