Morris stated, “[W]hat he has done is he has accepted the premise that the CBC and the Liberal Party have put forth, which is Trump bad. … It’s preposterous to reject the United States, as represented by Trump right now, to throw the baby out with the bathwater just because people have a negative opinion of Trump in Canada.”

Liberal Leader Mark Carney is confirming that U.S. President Donald Trump talked again about Canada becoming the a U.S. state during their first bilateral call on March 28.

Carney came under attack from the other main party leaders Thursday after a CBC/Radio-Canada article, citing confidential sources, said Trump pitched Carney during the call on the benefits of Canada joining the U.S.
Pressed by reporters Thursday, the Liberal leader admitted that Trump did bring up annexation during the call, adding that he made clear to Trump that would never happen.

Trump toned down his rhetoric toward Canada that day after months of needling then-prime minister Justin Trudeau by calling him the "governor" of America's soon-to-be 51st state.

On Wednesday, Trump's shadow again loomed over the federal election when he said in the Oval Office that he doesn't want Canada to play a part in the American auto industry and warned that auto tariffs against Canada could go up.

Anyone who thinks he would have won more votes by being conciliatory towards Trump simply doesn't understand Canadians. As much as many of us on this board would love to have a leader who does for us what Trump is doing for Americans, we are a fringe minority in this country. Most Canadians are only capable of engaging in politics to spite the United States. Getting up on a podium and (truthfully) declaring that Trump isn't asking us to do anything that we shouldn't already be doing is the surest way to lose.

Most people are confused and just run on whatever information their “smart” coworker or relative tells them. Then when somebody (ie. you) tell them conflicting information their brain goes into defence mode and nothings getting past that.

I had a boss that was exactly like this. Whoever got to him and told their side of the story first would cement it in his brain and then that’s the default info he would run off, and assume you were lying when you told a different tale.

Manipulating people is sadly very easy.
