The Alberta government has introduced legislation that will enable provincially regulated banks to offer halal home financing products.

Paying and receiving interest is prohibited in the Islamic faith, which means traditional interest-based mortgages aren't an option for many Muslims in Canada.

A few private lending firms do currently offer alternative financing plans that don't include interest payments, but these alternatives aren't available through any of Canada's larger banks.

Alberta Finance Minister Nate Horner says the legislation enables credit unions and ATB Financial to offer halal mortgages, but the banks won't be required to do so.

Horner says he expects these financial institutions to develop their products in short order as the changes embodied in the legislation were sought by the industry.

There are a few different types of halal home financing, such as a program where a financial institution buys a home on behalf of a client and charges fixed monthly payments -- including a profit margin -- until the client's home is paid off.

Perfect illustration of Canada's "based" Conservatives.

If Christians weren't cucked, usury-free banking would already be available, if not default, in this once Christian country.

More of Deuteronomy 28 coming true.

I don't really care what products banks offer....as long as every adult who qualifies financially is eligible to purchase said product.

If I can't get a halal mortgage because I am not Muslim, then that is discrimination, simple as that.

Nah, there's no such thing an interest-free mortgage. A halal mortgage just packages the projected total interest payments into the upfront cost

Muslim Jesus is a muslim fantasy.

"And when Muslim Jesus found them gathered around the woman taken in adultery and about to put her to death, He rebuked them, saying: 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone... and that would be Me. Hold on, I've just found a really big rock here, that whore is dead meat'"
