Now that it's painfully obvious that Canada doesn't have a right-wing terrorist problem, the Mounties have decided to broaden the definition of "extremism" to mean the expression of opinions they don't like, and to treat those as a serious domestic threat to be monitored on an ongoing basis:

The CBC article makes the usual invocation of the Evil Name of Trump, which is highly significant: if half the population support a politician deemed to be "extremist", that half must be kept under continual surveillance and discouraged when possible from expressing their support in any online forum. In other words, the RCMP are setting themselves up as the Thought Police in order to give themselves new relevance in an increasingly totalitarian Canada.
