Discussion What are you doing to prepare?

We have done a few things this year to try to ensure that we will be fine, no matter what issues may arise, hopefully...

So far we have:
1. We have backup wood heating with enough wood to heat the house for an entire winter.
2. We have enough food to last at least through the winter
3. We have learned how to identify, forage and process a bunch of local plants for food and medicine and have successfully made and used herbal medicine to treat illness this year including wound healing salves, cough cold treatement and even salicilin extractions into tinctures.
4. We have planted most of the yard as guardan, with a strong focus to perennial foodcrops, easy to seed-save annuals and bi-annuals and a special focus on a specific plant: Jerusalem Artichoke. Native north-american sunflower that grows underground tubers like potatoes with the same calorie per acre yield as potato, more nutrition than potato and none of the disease issues of potato where the only complaint from guardeners is that you can never kill or get rid of it, no matter how much you dig up the roots. Grows in zone 2-10 as like a perennial. Planted 63 this year. Those 63 will be 200+ next year, 10.5 lbs harvest average expectable yield from plant.
5. Backup-cooking methods.
6. Multiple ways to filter water, functionally unlimited fresh water with unlimited water access.
7. Full supply of first aid equipement including full body burn kits
8. Multiples hunting implements including, slingshot, bow and arrow and gun and ammunition
9. Fully equiped for fishing, new line, new rod, new reel with reliable access to boats
10. Full set of woodworking tools and various other tools

What have you guys been up to?

the biggest thing i've been up to this year, different from the usual, has been getting up to speed on pressure canning. have a decent enough amount of protein based jars of food set aside. seriously cant think of wtf took me so long to get on board with this method, but it is quite addictive.

household-wise, himself has sorted out his radio shit. other than that, we just keep on keeping on and buy a little extra each shop.
